TENTERDEN TOWN COUNCIL
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Town Clerk
at Tenterden Town Council. This is an interesting and varied post supporting an
active, community- and business- focused council. The successful applicant will
be required to provide professional support and guidance in respect of all
aspects of the council’s work including overseeing the financial running of the
council. The role will commence in early 2014 and will be full time at 37
hours a week including some evening meetings. You will be expected to –
arrange and attend all council and standing committee meetings –
currently held on a six-week cycle for council meetings and a fortnightly cycle
for standing committee meetings;
provide procedural, administrative and legal advice;
provide councillors with adequate information to enable informed
decisions to be made;
implement Council decisions;
oversee the accounts and ensure they are kept up to
You will be a point of contact for the general public and will be
responsible for the direct management of a staff team of six.
Essential requirements are excellent interpersonal skills and an
ability to communicate effectively and clearly with council members, staff,
residents, local authorities and other agencies, and professional consultants
advising the council.
Ideally, you will –
- already hold the CiLCA qualification, though strong applicants who
are prepared to undertake CiLCA will be considered
have good knowledge and experience of NALC policies and advice
have experience working in a committee-based organisation such as
a parish council or local authority, or in a customer-facing small business and
have a flair for leadership, and be flexible, creative and

employment contract. Salary and other benefits will depend on experience,
but the expected salary range is within NALC scales LC2/LC3 (points 35-42),
starting at £29,528 per year.

HAWKHURST PARISH COUNCIL
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Hawkhurst Parish Council as the Parish Council Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer. This is an interesting and varied post supporting an active, community focused Parish Council. The successful applicant will be required to provide professional support and guidance in respect of all aspects of the Council’s work including acting as the Council’s Responsible Financial Officer. The role will commence in early 2014 and will be for 20 hours a week spread over 5 days and to include some evening meetings.
You will arrange and attend all Council meetings; provide procedural, administrative and legal advice; prepare minutes, provide Councillors with adequate information to enable informed decisions to be made; implement Council decisions; keep the Council’s accounts up to date; and provide a welcoming point of contact for the general public.
It is essential that the successful candidate has good interpersonal skills who can communicate easily and clearly with Council members, parishioners, Local Authorities and other agencies, etc.
We therefore need someone with excellent administrative and numeracy skills and you will need to be computer literate with the ability to use email, spreadsheets and other office software.
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with NALC standard employment contract and will depend on experience.
Ideally you will have experience working in a committee based organisation such as a parish council or local authority, or in a customer facing small business.
Final appointment will be subject to a satisfactory probationary period.

BURMARSH PARISH COUNCIL
